On 14th July, 1916, 17th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the front line at Souchez, just to the north of Arras. On 18th July their front line positions came under fire from heavy trench mortars (minenwerfers) and rifle grenades while the support line was hit by high explosive shells. By the time it was over, three men were dead one of whom was William Harding. |
